Dr. Lakshmi Arya (Associate Professor)
Dr. Lakshmi Arya has a Ph.D. in Modern Indian History from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Her doctoral dissertation was on rape laws and trials in colonial times (Mysore and British India, 1860-1947). As a postdoctoral scholar, she has held faculty positions at the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore, and at the O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat. She has also been awarded various fellowships. She was the Charles Wallace India Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London (2009-10); a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla (2011-12); and a Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Emory University School of Law, Atlanta (2013-14). As a doctoral scholar, she was awarded the Gender, Sexuality and Law Visiting Fellowship at Keele University, U.K. and a Junior Research Fellowship of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Delhi.
